"Mawrters Making Change: A dinner discussion about social justice"
Wednesday, March 28th from 6pm to 8pm
Friends' Center
15th & Cherry Streets, Philadelphia
All BMC and GSSWSR alums and current students are invited to join the Bryn Mawr Alumnae Club for a dinner discussion about social justice. This is a chance to meet, talk, and network with other Mawrters who work on, donate to, or are interested in activism and social change. The discussion will be moderated by Professors Judy Porter (BMC), whose class on "The Sociology of AIDS" has included a hands-on learning component for years, and Sanford Schram (GSSWSR), who currently conducts research on welfare reform. Some topics for discussion might include:
· How BMC is incorporating experiential learning and social change components into the undergraduate curriculum;
· The effects of welfare reform in Philadelphia;
· How events like the WTO, World Bank, and Republican National Convention protests illustrate the changing face of activism; and
· Ideas for building activist communities in the Philadelphia area.
Please include your own suggestions for discussion topics when you RSVP! Reply by contacting Rose Corrigan at 215-387-7673 or rose.corrigan@verizon.net. You may also RSVP online at: RSVP--Activism Dinner will be provided (vegetarian options available) so please let us know by Monday, March 26th if you will be attending.
Fees for the event are as follows. Payment in advance is appreciated, but you may also pay at the door with advance reservations.
